Working on this comic for such a long time, I've come to realize that making art is a great diary with the world's best encryption. Everyone thinks they know what the artist meant; a house represents a home, etc. But this is a farce, as only the artist knows what was going on in his or her life at the time the art was made and how that shaped them as a person and found its way into the art. To you maybe it's just brushstrokes that make a tree, but to the artist, those strokes may have been made during a complicated time in their life. Maybe it was when they buried a pet, or was fired from a job or had their first child. That encoding is not for everyone to know, but is what can give an artist the reason to keep creating.
